Joseph William Namath was born on 31st May 1943 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. He had five siblings. He started playing football, basketball, and baseball while in high school and had Major League Baseball teams trying to get him to join them. However, he was more into football and declined. He joined the University of Alabama played for Crimson Tide and led his team to a national championship in 1964.

At the age of 19, while taking voice acting classes, he met Deborah Mays who was training to be an actress, and started dating and got married in 1984. They had two children Jessica and Olivia. Unfortunately, the marriage had issues that could not be reconciled leading to a divorce in 2000. The divorce triggered his drinking problem as he had stopped drinking to protect his marriage. Namath grew up playing football, and basketball in high school and played for the school team in university. He signed with the Jets in 1965 and won five of the eight of a fourteen-game season, and was named AFL Rookie of the Year. He appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and got the nickname Broadway Joe. Namath was in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985 and the NFL’s greatest character. He played during Super Bowl III and won over the Baltimore Colts with eight passes to one player for 133 yards and became the MVP of the Superbowl game.

He started his acting career in 1969 and landed roles in films like C.C and Company, The Waverly, The Lover Boat, The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, The Brady Bunch and Married with Children. He was featured on The Simsons as a voice actor in the animated series. He opened a nightclub in 1969 named Bachelors III on the Upper East Side of New York City, the club was doing well and was a chilling spot for most celebrities becoming to the ground of organized crime.

Namath signed a three-year rookie contract with the Jets for $427,000.  In 1975, he added a two-year deal worth $900,000 with the Jets. In 1975 he was earning $1 million per year from brand deals making him the highest-paid celebrity. He was making $450,000 per year in salary, brands, and endorsements. He sold his upper west side of New York City mansion for $1.195 million in 2019 and bought it for $1 million in 2016.

He transferred to the Los Angeles Rams after 12 years with the Jets. He was benched as a starter for half of the season due to a knee injury and a bad hamstring. He retired in 1977 when the season came to an end as he was missing games due to injuries with a record of 3,762 yards with a completion rate of 50.1%, 220 interceptions, and 173 touchdowns.
