Ceslie-Ann Kamakawiwo’ole is the daughter of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole a Hawaiian songwriter, singer and activist popularly known as Bruddah Iz. She was Hawaii’s most wanted for a crime she committed. Ceslie Ann was caught on camera driving a stolen car from the parking lot after the owner alerted the police. The video was viral and on police ladder with a twenty thousand dollars bounty on her as the most wanted criminal in Hawaii. The police caught up with her and she was arrested and taken to Honolulu Police custody.

She was a rogue kid growing up and through Hawaii’s Hope Probation Program had a second chance at life to stop crime. She always wanted freedom and being in such an institution was hard for her and would always get in trouble. After Ceslie was arrested for stealing a car, her spotlight reduced and her life became private with no information if she was released as she’s also off on social media.

Ceslie-Ann Kamakawiwo’ole father Israel Kamakawiwo’ole was a Hawaiian songwriter, singer and activist. He grew up surrounded by people in the entertainment industry as his mother was a manger, his dad a bouncer and his uncle a well-known Hawaiian musician Moe Keale. He started playing music with his brother and cousin at the age of 11. He went to University of Hawaii at Hilo as the family went to reside in Makaha. He met Sam Gray, Jerome Koko and Louis Kaukahi and formed a band.
He was part of the Makaha Sons of Ni’ihau music group playing contemporary and traditional H Hawaiian music. They released 15 successful albums like Ho’oluana, Ho’ ola and Kaela before he ventured into a solo career and released his first album in 1990. Israel won Male Vocalist of the Year and Contemporary Album of the Year. In 2010, he was named The Voice of Hawai’i’ by NPR in its 50 great voice series.
The song Over the Rainbow was at number 6 on the OE3 Austria charts and at number 1 in France and Switzerland in December 2010. His second album Facing Future was number 25 on Billboard Top Catalogue Chart with over a million CDs in sales. As an activist, he used his lyrics to pass a message and encourage Hawaii’s independence and rights. In 2020, his music video for Over the Rainbow reached a billion views on YouTube and the song was added as heritage in American recorded sound into National Recording Registry.
Israel married his childhood sweetheart Marlene in 1982 and unfortunately divorced in 1997. He occasionally was being admitted in the hospital for chronic cardiac and respiratory issues from being overweight as he was obese most of his life. He died on June 1997 at the age of 38. To show respect to the dead star, the flag flew half-mast during his burial. At the time of his death, Israel had an accumulated net worth of $3 million.
